Globally, type 1 diabetes (T1D)—a life-threatening autoimmune disease affecting nine million people worldwide—is rising at an alarming rate among children and young adults, disproportionately impacting those in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Although noncommunicable diseases (NCDs)—including T1D—account for 74% of global deaths, they remain severely underfunded and underprioritized, receiving only 1-2% of global health financing. Without urgent action, T1D will continue to strain health systems and threaten lives. Health systems in LMICs often lack the resources to meet the needs of people living with T1D, and millions still face significant barriers to diagnosis, treatment, and care—preventing them from receiving the support needed to survive and thrive.
That’s why 30 community-based organizations across 23 countries supported by The T1D Community Fund, powered by Panorama Global, are uniting their voices to issue a global call to action. This collective of civil society organizations are calling on leaders to:
By taking collective action, we can drive lasting change for people living with T1D.
